An intimate wedding at Stoke Newington Town Hall

This was my first time photographing a wedding at Stoke Newington Town Hall. What a gem of a place to get married! Stoke Newington Town Hall is part of ‘Hackney Venues’. I have lost count how many times I have photographed weddings at the awesome Hackney Town Hall. Now I had the pleasure of Stoke Newington Town Hall with Zoe & Ian.

Stoke Newington Town Hall offers decadent 1930s glamour with its outstanding art-deco interiors. Dark mahoganies, elegant marble and one of Europe’s largest working mirror balls make this venue one of the most desirable event spaces for ceremonies in London.

I met this lovely couple whilst photographing their friends wedding a few years ago. Zoe and Ian wanted a very unconventional wedding. Having a very intimate and relaxed wedding ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall – with their wedding reception at The Coal House Cafe in Woodberry Wetlands. Zoe looked amazing in her golden orange wedding dress and the wedding ceremony was not only beautiful, but suited this couple so very well. After the confetti shot and a few important ‘group photos’ I love taking newlyweds for their ‘couple portrait’ wedding photos.

So many opportunities here. We incorporated the vibrant interior of Stoke Newington Town Hall, along with their very impressive stone exterior.

With the wedding being in November we were blessed with clear dry weather. This gave us the opportunity to take some more ‘candid’ and couple portraits at The Coal House to compliment their ceremony. I really prefer taking couples for ‘pockets’ of time rather than a whole hour at a time. I feel couples are more relaxed and don’t spend too long away from their guests. After all, when you are just married you want to mingle and enjoy your reception before you sit down for your wedding breakfast.

Also, but taking the newly weds for shorter periods it helps take advantage of the different types of light throughout the day. You can see the different light in some of my chosen images for this blog what a difference the timing makes.

This whole day, combined with an amazing couple (who were totally meant to be together) was fabulous. Here are some very kind words from Zoe & Ian:

“Thank you so much for these really lovely photos.  We are so pleased with them. We also want to thank you for being such a lovely positive presence on the day.  In short – you were simply fantastic” – Zoe + Ian x

Congratulations Zoe and Ian, you were both amazing to work with and totally rocked your wedding day. Here are a selection of my favourite images from a very special day…..enjoy x
